Heath Zarin

Chief Executive Officer & Founder

Mr. Zarin is a founder and the Chief Executive Officer of Emergent Investment Group, based in Hong Kong. He is responsible for the firm’s strategic business development and manages all investment activities.

Prior to founding EIG in 2008, Mr. Zarin held a series of senior executive roles at Credit Suisse Alternative Investments, a leading global alternative asset manager with over US$165 billion of assets under management. Mr. Zarin established Credit Suisse’s Asian private equity business in 2005, served as the Founding Head of Credit Suisse Private Equity Asia and managed more than US$500 million of proprietary capital. In addition, he was instrumental in the formation and development of China Renaissance Capital Investment, a Credit Suisse-affiliated China-focused private equity firm with more than US$1 billion of assets under management.

Prior to Asia, Mr. Zarin managed Credit Suisse’s Central and Eastern European illiquid investments, transitioning the portfolio from severely distressed into a profitable venture. Highlights include completing the largest (at the time) private share sale on the Warsaw Stock Exchange, an MBO in Ukraine and add-on acquisitions across CEE. As part of managing the European book, he was also responsible for, and completed several successful foreign exchange hedging strategies.

Mr. Zarin had extensive experience with DLJ Merchant Banking, a leading leveraged buyout business, and DLJ Investment Partners, a leading mezzanine investment business. He worked on several significant LBO and mezzanine transactions. Mr. Zarin was also responsible for monetizing DLJ’s public portfolio, and sold more than US$1 billion of stock in a variety of block trades, registered offerings and open market transactions.

Mr. Zarin began his professional career as a corporate lawyer with Schulte Roth & Zabel LLP, where he formed and advised hedge funds and private equity funds, and represented financial sponsors on a wide range of corporate transactions (e.g., M&A, IPO, high yield, etc.).

Mr. Zarin currently serves on the board of directors of McNally Sayaji Engineering (India). His previous board service includes Aladdin Media Holdings (China), ACR Capital Holdings (Singapore), Binani Cement (India), China Sunergy (China), Iskra (Ukraine) and Opoczno (Poland).

Mr. Zarin received his J.D. from the Fordham University School of Law and his B.A. from the State University of New York at Binghamton. He is also a CFA, CMT and CAIA charterholder, and received his Certificate in Investment Management from Harvard Business School.

Roger Moh

Director & Founder

Mr. Moh is a founder and Director of Emergent Investment Group, based in Hong Kong. His responsibilities span the firm’s investment and corporate finance advisory activities, with particular focus on financial valuation, due diligence and transaction execution.

Prior to EIG, Mr. Moh was a founding member of Credit Suisse Private Equity Asia, where he executed over US$100 million of private equity investments across Asia. Selected investment experience include US$620 million capitalization of the first exclusively pan-Asian reinsurance company in Singapore, US$2.4 billion leveraged buyout of a commercial bank in Japan, and US$33 million structured investment into a leading Indian cement manufacturer.

Before relocating to Hong Kong, Mr. Moh was an investment banker with Credit Suisse’s Technology Investment Banking Group in New York, where he executed over US$9 billion of M&A and corporate finance transactions. Highlights include US$5.4 billion sale of a consumer graphic IC manufacturer, US$2.7 billion leveraged buyout of an optoelectronic / semiconductor division of a global technology company and the US$459 million IPO of the largest commercial thin-film solar module manufacturer in the world.

Prior to joining Credit Suisse, Mr. Moh worked for the Government of Singapore Investment Corp and ON Semiconductor.

Mr. Moh received his S.M. degree in Computer Science from M.I.T, where he was also a research member at the Computer Science & Artificial Intelligence Laboratory. Mr. Moh is an alumni of the Nanyang Technological University, where he graduated first in his class, receiving the Lee Kwan Yew Gold Medal and Institute of Engineers Singapore Gold Medal. Mr. Moh is author to several scientific publications in the area of computer science.

A Singaporean, he is fluent in Mandarin and English and is conversant in Cantonese and variants of the Minan dialect.

Douglas Van

Industry Partner

Mr. Van focuses on investment opportunities in chemicals and consumer products. Mr. Van, a chemical engineer by training, brings more than 25 years of industrial experience to EIG. For more than 12 years, he has ran Kelly International, a China-based trading and manufacturing concern formed in 1955, leading the company’s transition from trading to manufacturing. For the last 20 years, Mr. Van has also acted as an investment advisor, manager and consultant for a wide range of special situations, including investments in manufacturing and real estate, as well as for multinational companies entering China. Mr. Van is a ten-year veteran of Exxon Chemicals, where he held significant roles in Asia and the U.S., with responsibility for marketing, R&D, strategic planning and chemical plant operations. Mr. Van received a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from McGill University, Montreal, and an M.B.A. from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He has served as a non-executive director for several public and private companies, and serves as the Chairman of the Americas Committee at the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce, the Chairman of the Hong Kong Adventist Hospital Foundation, and a member of the Advisory Cabinet of the Centre for International Child Health. A Chinese national, he is fluent in Shanghainese, Mandarin, Cantonese and English.
